A great edition of the GMAP Planetary Geologic Mapping Winter School has just completed today tthe 5 days full of lessons, seminar and hands-on about topics related to the magic world of planetary mapping. This edition, in its virtual form, the winter school has had 400+ participants from abroad.
This year the school was focused on Moon and Mars science and mapping. Students had the opportunity to know more about software, instruments and data in technical sessions.
The students at the lab followed the lessons and seminars all the week. This year they can access a two-level certificate after submitting their mapping exercise.
A big thanks to GMAP for organizing the school and the EUROPLANET RI 2024 initiative!
Finally a face-to-face meeting is going to happen in Granada, Spain. It is the European Planetary Space Congress, from 18 to 23rd of September 2022.
Our GISlab at IAPS INAF will give a contribution to the conference with the work of Doctorate candidate Andrea Apuzzo about his studies on the fractures found on the terrain at Oxia Planum, Mars.
The work Automatic Fracture Tracing by Image Processing on Oxia Planum, Mars can be discussed in the poster session of the session “ Structural Geology and Deformational Histories of Terrestrial Bodies” Thursday, 22 September 2022 from 18:45 to 20:15.
See you in Granada!
The world wide meeting of Free Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) has been in Italy this year!
We have been there - among other 1000+ people where we enjoued the updates from the software projects and application of geospatial studies, including planetary this year!
The second edition of the GMAP Planetary Geologic Mapping Winter School has been held virtually from 7 to 11 February 2022.
A dense week of seminar and hands-on foscused on geologic mapping of the main bodies of our solar systems, where students and researchers had the opportunity to learn the basics of interpretative mapping.
Specific sessions devoted to spectroscopy, dating and virtual reality topped the offer of this very informative winter school.
We followed the school from INAF’s GISlab, and look forward to join the next edition in person!
Welcome. This is the website of the GISlab, which has has grown in the last two difficult years. Restrictions during the pandemics slowed down the development of our physical space at IAPS/INAF, but in the last year we have finally set up the lab.
We now have a physical place where to work on maps and software, and from today also a website. This website wants to include all the ongoing activities as well as our published results. The physical and virtual souls of the laboratory were planned since the design/proposal. So we can really start! Let see…
